IMA participated on the FP7: Joint Technology Initiatives programme research project PANACHE (“Pilot line for Advanced Nonvolatile memory technologies for Automotive microcontrollers, High security applications and general Electronics“). The project consortium led by ST Microelectronics consisted of thirty European industry, research and academic partners. The PANACHE project’s objective was to set-up a pilot line for embedded Flash technology design, and a manufacturing platform for prototyping of innovative microcontrollers in Europe.
The resulting output technology platform is represented by 55nm and 40 microcontrollers with embedded non-volatile flash memory for Automotive, Consumer and Secure market segment. IMA implemented the PANACHE Automotive platform into an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) prototype as depicted on the attached diagram. The IMA PANACHE ECU integrates multiple communication interfaces as CAN, BlueTooth or LTE. For the purpose of the functional demonstration of the platform capabilities the CAN bus is monitored in real time; the received data are filtered and analysed. The relevant information is reported to a remote server via a GSM network (the car2infrastructure demonstration) or to the connected mobile application via BlueTooth.
IMA ECU solution involved development of HW and FW of the ECU, remote server including the database and web visualisation, dedicated Android application and, last but not the least, the secured and encrypted communication protocol using cryptographic certificates.
Final review on the European level took place in Grenoble on 24th April 2018, and the Czech national MŠMT review took place in Prague on 12th December 2018. Project was evaluated as Successful and achieving significant technical results.
PANACHE project’s results are being further extended in a following project WAKeMeUP (“Wafers for Automotive and other Key applications using Memories, embedded in Ulsi Processors”). IMA remains a part of the project partners’ consortium despite the significant reduction to 18 parties. Due to its excellent results, IMA is currently the only European SME company participating in the WAKeMeUP project.
