This plug-in device is used for installation wherever it is necessary to connect CKP-2(B) or CKP-2 terminals or the electronic reader control (CKP-21) with the RS 485 output directly to a computer network. The RJ 45 connector with the adequate IP address is the point of connection for the computer network; the CANON 25 pin connector is the point of connection for the terminals or the electronic control.
The converter converts the RS 485 protocol to the ETHERNET (TCP/IP) interface in both directions. The RS 485 interface (interface with differential signals) enables the reach of up to 1,200m (if a suitable cable is used). At present computer networks are commonly available in all buildings of organizations, so it is not necessary to use the low-quality wire connection for RS 485 (e.g. phone conduits). The same solution is necessary for the transfer from remote locations (e.g. more than 1.2km), which would otherwise have to be solved by installing a PC with control software.
Design
The ETHERNET (TCP/IP)/RS 485 converter is built in in a plastic case and terminated with connectors. It is supplied with +12 V voltage from the backed-up source of the identification system. The TCP/IP interface is defined in a standard. In addition, this standard specifies the connector type (RJ 45), its fitting and the importance of individual signals, and also defines the voltage levels. On the system connection side the converter is fitted with the CANON 25 connector. On the network connector (i.e. ETHERNET interface) side the module is equipped with four LED indicators for indicating the operating status and error modes.
